Furthermore, inspect the internal check valve of the nozzle for smooth movement. A stiff check valve makes turbulence inside the nozzle body that can falsely trigger the vacuum diaphragm.
The diaphragm is a flexible rubber part that regulates the shut-off lever. Over time, fuel additives can cause the rubber to stiffen or tear. If the diaphragm is ruptured, the nozzle will lock up and refuse to stay open. Replace the diaphragm assembly using a compatible repair kit.
